you are the change...

"Stur": only U can stir up positive change

If you're like me, maybe you find it difficult to find an audience for your music, maybe you've been looking for a public outlet to share your  musical talent and voice, but it feels like you just haven't had any luck. I used to blame this on the fact that I didn't have enough money to buy quality-sounding instruments and equipment, and that I lived in a run-down town full of people who didn't appreciate underground music...

But there's hope! I'm here to tell you that your success in the music world has nothing to do with luck, and everything to do with attitude. Don't wait for opportunities to open up - make opportunities. Don't be afraid to ask the universe for help. If you think positive, your life will become positive in your favor. Everything in life has a vibration, just like music, and if you keep your conscious and subconscious thoughts at a high vibrational level, then you'll learn how to use the law of attraction and congruence to benefit your life dreams.

Below is are very simple ways you can help expose genuine music to the public, discover genuine music for yourself, and create your own genuine music that addresses concerns in today's society:

1. Express yourself

- jot down some lyrics and sing a new tune

- make a mix-tape

- start a band with friends

- perform live, at open mic shows, local restaurants, city sidewalks

NOTE: Whether you decide to get serious with making music, or if you simply make music for the fun of it is up to you. You can form a public band that plays gigs and produces music copies, or just a small private band that jams out in your garage or basement. You may doubt your talents at first, but overtime, you'll see that improvement comes with practice, and you'll realize things about yourself you never knew before. It doesn't matter what instruments you use or what prior experience you have; it's about uncovering new music, or rediscovering old music because music is the sacred language of the universe. Don't make music with the sole goal in mind of impressing others or making money because 'good' music only comes out of loving the fact that you're playing music. The most important thing is to enjoy what you do!

2. Support independent and alternative artists

- explore your local community's music scene

be aware of what music artists live in your town/city and give them a listen, you might be happily surprised or you might dislike their music, but it's the experience that counts

- search for rare and even seemingly obscure artists online through music sharing sites, once you've found rare music that you really love, you'll feel like you have a deep connection with that music and buying it will be worthwhile for both you and the artist

- join or form an organization that supports independent artists and stands up against censorship, many of these organizations can be found online

- seek out originality, appreciate new and old music that feels meaningful to you

3. Boycott all that cookie-cutter music corruption!

- be aware of what music related businesses have greedy practices and unfair policies that cut-short the artists that work under them

- if you truly want to know more about an artist, look at first-person sources such as cited quotes from that artist or that artist's friends and family (beware of false quotes), and use the artist's music to paint a picture of their life story instead of going off of what the critics say, don't spread rumors about artists because they're just people like you and me who deserve respect and privacy

- please only start your own online fan page if you're going to be respectful of the online music community and supportive of other artists and music listeners

Keep the music spirit alive and well!

... the music plays on...
